Seemandhra: Counter-agitations, dharnas launched

The Finance Minister consented to meet the delegation either on July 12 or 13,

  • Students of Samaikyandhra Vidyarthi Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday burnt effigies of Seemandhra leaders at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam demanding people’s representatives from Seemandhra region to raise their voice in support of a united state or resign from their posts
  • They staged agitations, rastarokos and dharnas on Wednesday demanding the legislators from Seemandhra region to make efforts to keep Andhra Pradesh united
  • Though police officials initially deployed central forces in the University suspecting trouble, they later withdrew the forces as the situation remained peaceful
  • TDP legislators led by D Umamaheswara Rao staged protests at Nandigama in Krishna district and stalled vehicular traffic on NH9 demanding the central government not to heed to the demands of separatist parties
  • They also demanded the Centre to find a solution to the problem but firmly wanted it to ensure that the state remains united
